"The Walking Wrinkle
By George Zasadil

Although I had a lot of friends at Kagnew, I considered Harvey Nichols to be my best friend. Harvey was from Green Bay, Wisconsin and we shared a lot of on duty and off duty time together. Harvey worked adjacent to NMSD in the Arabic section of Non-Morse Intercept.
Harvey's original nickname was "The Walking Wrinkle"! I do not remember who gave him that "Call Sign" but it seemed very apropos. Harvey's uniforms always looked as if he had slept in them for 3 or 4 days, even if it was fresh from the laundry. The Houseboy Laundry must have had it in for him! Even his civilian clothes had that wrinkled look! During his last 6 weeks at Kagnew he was re-named (Probably by Jim Boyce) Photo Harvey or Photo Wrinkle.
Harvey was well known as a person who would get the best Bang for his Buck! He probably holds the record for getting laid the most times in an 18-month Kagnew Station Tour. He also probably holds the record for getting the clap (Gonorrhea) in an 18 month Kagnew Station Tour. He kept a large bottle of Tetracycline on the shelving above his bunk.
Harvey always told me that the Bar Whores were too "High Priced" and that he rather go to the 'Green Doors" or Jump a "Street Girl" or "Stick Woman".
Harvey also knew how to drink, and with the best of them, Spook McKay, Mike Powers, Steve Popko and Jerry Wilkinson! I never could compete with these guys-even though I tried! The parties that we had at Wani's Place sometimes turned into Drinkathons and Sexathons!
As well as Harvey knew how to spend his money on getting laid and getting drunk, he didn't know how to gamble. We'd play Hollywood Gin for a penny a point at the Oasis Club. At the end of the month I usually would be getting $40 from him in Gin Rummy Debts! I recall, one month that I had won so much money from him, I took him Downtown for a night of drinking and total whoring! Many Melotti's and Zibibs, the Green Doors (to get Face) and the Bar Whores from the Lancia Bar to get jumped! I really knew how to blow his money!
Harvey departed Kagnew Station, with Chuck Fairless in May 1968. Within a 3-week period I lost a 6 good Buddies (Spook, Wilk, Popko, Boyce, Fairless and Harv). This signified the official end of the Gross Guys! About 4 or 5 had left in the 3 preceding months.
I kept in contact with Harvey for several years after the military, but lost that contact in the mid '70's. We found one another on the Internet in 1997 and Reunited in 1999!
